Topic: Created for good works (2)
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10,NIV)
As Christians we were not saved by works. Ephesians 2:8-9,NIV - "For by grace you have been saved through faith... not by works, so that no one can boast." However, you were saved to do good works which God had long prepared for you to do. Therefore now that you're saved you must discover what good works the LORD would have you do. Proverbs 25:2,NIV - "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings."
The question must people ask is how would I know what good works God has prepared for me to do. In order words, how do i discover my purpose on earth. Let's briefly consider a few.
1. Studying the Word.
God is our manufacturer and the Bible is our manual. So to know what we've been created for we must consult the manufacturer's manual. In Luke 4:17 Jesus was given the scroll (bible of those days) to read and He opened where it was written of Him. He opened Isaiah 61:1-2 which happened to be the good works that God has prepared for Him to do. If He had not been studying the Word He wouldn't have found it. There is a portion of scriptures that has your name written all over it. You must discover it by meditatively studying God's Word under the influence of His Spirit.
2. Prayer.
To know what a product is made for you consult the manufacturer. Jeremiah 33:3,NIV - "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know." There are things that we can never know unless God reveals them to us. Ask your manufacturer and He would show you. The problem haven't trained themselves on how to listen to God.
3. Looking inwards.
Sometimes the way to know what you are to do is by looking inwards. Proverbs 20:27,NIV - "The human spirit is[a] the lamp of the Lord that sheds light on one’s inmost being." Your passion, something you have intense desire or enthusiasm for could lead you to the good works God has prepared for you.
